Le Moulin du Pont is found nestling in a lush valley surrounded by rolling hills and wooded areas which are ideal for exploring. The river "La Louge" runs through the land at the rear of the property and provides private fishing.
The property is within minutes of the medieval town of Aurignac which is famous for the prehistoric caves where, in 1860, relics were discovered, an enormous turning point for historians. The Aurignacian people occupied vast areas of Europe including Austria, Slovakia and Spain. They were significant in the development of body adornment including pendants made with teeth, shells and bones. There are plans to build a new museum to display the massive importance of the development of European culture which originated from this area. The prehistoric caves are a very short distance from Le Moulin de Pont.
Aurignac town centre dates mostly from the 12th Century. There are remains of the castle which was built in 1240. Not much of the castle has survived but there are still some fortifications and the restored donjon. A number of the houses are from the Renaissance period and altogether provide a delightful little town. There are numerous restaurants and bars in Aurignac and surrounding area, providing local Gascony cuisine and international fare in the local area.. There is a public tennis court plus the opportunity to go trekking or have riding lessons at the local equestrian centre.
